Level8? Please Wait! Coming Soon!!
London Language Institute ( LLI ) starts its new curriculum in July 2nd. It is expected that the compose of classes will not be changed. LLI will keep the classes ,Level 1 to 8, AP1 and AP2. However, the contents including textbooks will be changed in level 8, AP1 and AP2. Level 8 is going to have new books and new curriculum. AP1 will have the level 8's curriculum, and AP2 will have a new curriculum.
The change in level 8 is designed for reducing gaps between level 7 and level8. Daniel, who started at level 6 and now in level AP3, "I got in trouble when I went to level 8. I found it difficult to learn especially vocabulary and grammar as time passed." He also said that when he was in level 7 he felt that the atmosphere has more freedom. On the other hand, he found that level 8 is more academic and focuses on preparing students for the university. Also Ismail, a former LLI Student, said "I usually tell anyone going from level 7 to level8 to be careful of the amount of grammar, reading and listening." he also added that taking level 8 needs more time and hard work. LLI has recognized this problem and rearranged some of the levels and brought the new curriculum. Actually, the new level 8 will have half of the grammar and listening comparing to the original level 8 (Original level 8 have two grammar and two listening questions every unit including workbook). Jennifer, a teacher in the school and the person who designed this curriculum, said, "I expect that teachers and students will have more time to learn grammar and listening. They can learn each unit deeper". In other words, they will not be chased in time anymore. Moreover, the new level 8 will include teaching pronunciation. Even though pronunciation is an important part of speaking, It has never been tried in classes. Jennifer also said that through this, she expects students to go to the next level more smoothly.
The current AP class' curriculum was made 4~5 years ago. As time passed, Ways of learning english have been changed a lot and there are some inquiring about AP class. One of the complains is that the current level 8 class' grammar is more difficult than AP class. Gabriel, a student who is taking AP1, said, "Sometime I feel that level 8 is harder than AP1, Especially when I'm studying grammar." As LLI collected students' opinions, the AP1 curriculum will be replaced by level 8's, And AP2 class will use a new curriculum. This new curriculum has been prepared to fit recent trends. It is more suitable for entering the university. Moreover, Its topics consist of human rights, law and Canadian culture. These topics have not been touched before in curriculums, students are expected to be more interested.
Nobody knows whether this attempt is going to be successful or not. However, it is certain that it will have a positive influence on students, considering LLI's preparation and new curriculum's contents.
