Book club is opening!
Last Wednesday (July 18), Book club finally opened. Like Newspaper club, Book club had ceased for a time due to responsible teachers being away from LLI. As Toni, who is teacher in LLI, decided to take care Book club, Book club has been revived. Through interviewing Toni, I tried to find out what is Book club and recommend student to join Book club.
When I saw brochures of Book club at first, I thought Book club just aims to read books, But it's totally the wrong idea. Tony said "Book club not only head for improving reading skills, but also giving chance of discussing students’ thoughts." Before gathering in Wednesday, members are assigned a part of a book that should be read. When Book club starts, Members have a sometime talking about what they couldn't understand. After that, they start to discuss what they read, felt and thought. Through this process, members can grow skills to how to express their opinions.
Some students might be worry that they don't like reading and sometimes feel bored. But Toni already thought over how to make members interested in reading books. What Tony chooses for books is all about movies. Tony told me when she chose books, she picks books which she read and watched impressively. So, she is sure that any students read easily and enjoy. Her plan is watching a movie before reading the book. She said "We can watch the movie that is about the book. We might order some pizza or buy chips and just enjoy watching the movie." Through watching the movie, it can help understanding the book and drawing members’ attention. When I asked her what she wanted to say about Book club, She said "You can enjoy both reading and speaking at the same time just by using 10$ (when you buy a book at first, you pay 10$) So, I want any students regardless their level to join this club."
You don't satisfy your reading or speaking skills? Do you want to have chance of reading and speaking? Why don't you join Book club?? Book club is for YOU!!
